Easy Homemade Chili

Homemade chili is so easy, and it’s typically very healthy.  This mildly flavored one-pot wonder makes the house smell wonderful while it’s simmering…perfect on the stovetop while you’re decorating for the holidays.  Serve it with shredded cheese and corn muffins.  Or, top it with a dollop of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.

  • 1 pound extra lean ground beef (96% lean)
  • minced garlic, equal to 3-4 cloves
  • 2 14.5-ounce cans diced tomatoes with green peppers and onion
  • 1 15-ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 1 packet of All American Burger Seasoning Mix (or your favorite spice blend)
  • 1 or 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper (if you like it spicy)
  • 1 15-ounce can spicy chili beans, undrained
  • 2 15-ounce cans reduced-sodium black beans, drained

  • Brown ground beef with garlic.
  • Add remaining ingredients, mixing throughly to combine.
  • Simmer for about 30 minutes.  The chili will thicken as it simmers.

  1. I like the idea of topping the chili with Greek yogurt rather than sour cream. I am always amazed by how many variations there are to a simple bowl of chili. Since my family is originally from the Midwest, they are big fans of adding macaroni to chili.
